Research in Law, Language & Cognition.

Laws are more than rules.

They are an insight into human behaviour and a means of changing lives for the better.

My research centers on making sense of the law through the lens of cognitive science. What is it like to be a legal subject, how and why do we make rules, what do they do, how do they change the way we view the world, and how will interacting with technology affect this?

The swift development of AI, quantum computing, geoengineering and other future technologies pose questions about the traditional rules and norms embedded in our cultures and institutions.

What changes, what can we do about it, and what does it tell us about us?
